MikeGrowsGreens Update
It’s August 12th and my business has been starting to pick up. I’ve been busy reaching out to potential new clients and focusing on providing my greens for The Optimist and Sweet Peas Urban Gardens. I’ve been growing basil and radish for The Optimist and broccoli for Sweet Peas. Soon I’ll be offering amaranth, and pea shoots as well. I’ve been working on trying to grow sunflower shoots which I have done in the past, but they have been giving me trouble lately. First, I had a problem with squirrels who got into my patio and ate them, now I’m dealing with mold. Going to re-evaluate my strategy and method. Sunflower shoots are my favorite microgreen, so I want to be able to provide them to my customers. At the Optimist, in the fall, they’ll have a salad that will have my sunflower shoots on them. It’s still a work in progress so stay tuned!
This past month (July), I’ve been working on setting up a way to order MikeGrowsGreens directly from me. I opened a business bank account at a local bank, and they offer their own POS system called Talech. I now am able to take payments by card or apple pay for personal sales. I processed my first transaction the other day, selling someone a half ounce of basil. I ordered containers, so now I can offer 1 oz and 2 oz packages of any of the greens I grow. Another exciting thing that I've worked on is my business cards. I received them last week and have been giving them out.
My goal now for the rest of the summer is to reach out to more cafes, health food stores, and restaurants and see where that takes me. So far, I’ve left samples and my card at two cafes and I’m going to a health food store tomorrow. Looking into vegan/vegetarian restaurants as well. I have some on my radar but I’m going to do my research and see if anybody can benefit from using my greens on their food. At the moment I have daikon radish, basil, and sunflowers available for purchase. Next week I’ll have more broccoli and eventually amaranth and pea shoots. Email me through this website, message me on instagram, call/text me or stop by The Optimist to purchase some MikeGrowsGreens for your meals. Thanks for following my journey!
